Let’s find out more details in the following article!
Learn a little about Bib Gourmand 2024
42 restaurants in Bib Gourmand 2024 are honored by Michelin Guide for “good quality food at affordable prices”, according to the assessment of Michelin appraisers. Last year, Vietnam had 29 restaurants receiving this award.
The Bib Gourmand awards in the coastal city of Da Nang, the latest destination in Vietnam to be added to the Michelin Guide, will be revealed on June 27, 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City during the Michelin Guide 2024 Vietnam announcement ceremony.
5 new restaurants in Hanoi appear on the list, including Bun Cha Chan, Luk Lak, Mien Luong Dong Thinh, Mr Bay Mien Tay. In Ho Chi Minh City, 8 restaurants appear for the first time in the Michelin award, including Banh Xeo 46A, Bo Kho Ganh, Bun Bo Hue 14B, Man Moi, Nha Tu, Sol Kitchen & Bar, Tiem Com Tho Chuyen Ky and Vi Que Kitchen.
At the ceremony, the Michelin Guide also presented other awards. The Young Chef Award was given to Duy Nguyen from Little Bear, a Michelin Selected restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City. The Sommelier Award was given to Toan Nguyen from La Maison 1888, Da Nang. Mr. Nguyen from Si Dining – a Michelin Selected restaurant in Da Nang, was awarded the Service Award for his excellent service skills.
Michelin’s criteria for evaluating delicious dishes
Whether the price is commensurate with the quality is a very important factor in evaluating every culinary business in the Bib Gourmand list. The award has been in place since 1997, and dishes must cost 850,000 VND or less, according to the Singapore Tourism Board.
Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, said the Michelin 2024 list is “an invitation to gourmets to explore the charm, quality and diversity of Vietnamese cuisine”.
The list of restaurants announced by Michelin inspectors this year is guaranteed to bring diners authentic culinary experiences at the most affordable prices. With the criteria of delicious, nutritious, and cheap, Bib Gourmand restaurants are often followed and noticed by many people. More specific, Michelin-starred restaurants are independently evaluated by anonymous judges, according to worldwide standards, based on five criteria:
- Food quality.
- Culinary talent.
- Flavor harmony.
- The chef’s personality is expressed through the dish.
- The consistency of the dish over time and across the entire menu.
In 2023, Michelin came to Vietnam for the first time to evaluate and award stars to restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. The first four Vietnamese restaurants to be awarded one Michelin star include Anan Saigon in Ho Chi Minh City; Gia, Hibana by Koki and Tam Vi in Hanoi.
In which, Michelin relies on the number of “stars” to classify restaurant quality. And “stars” is the classification and ranking system of Michelin Guide, the most prestigious culinary ranking organization in the world. Including:
- One star for restaurants “with delicious food quality, worth stopping to enjoy”.
- Two stars are “restaurants with excellent food quality, worth visiting”.
- Three stars (highest) are places with “excellent food quality, worth planning to come and enjoy”.
In addition to the 4 starred restaurants, the 2023 Michelin Guide announced 102 restaurants and individuals in Vietnam honored in three categories:
- Michelin Selected (Michelin recommended)
- Michelin Guide Special Awards
- Bib Gourmand (good restaurants with reasonable prices).
The Michelin Guide is currently available in more than 40 countries and territories. This guide was first launched by the French tire company Michelin in 1900 and is committed to providing international tourists and local diners with the best restaurants in the world, honoring cuisine and promoting tourism.
